HMDX Jam Box Bluetooth Speaker

by Josh Osborne Osborne.Josh@MacPhail.org

I've been using the HMDX Jam Box for my daily speaker needs  for the past month now. I teach in community partnerships, Music For Life, and individual music therapy sessions, so I have often been confronted with the need for a portable solution to amplification.

I have to say, I'm incredibly impressed with the volume output of this little device. It fits in the palm over your hand, weighs a little over a pound, and can project convincingly in a large space. I recently took this speaker on a road trip with me; even with the all the windows down, I could still hear my music over all the noise.

Additionally, this device is Bluetooth capable, so it is cable-free.  There is an 1/8in input option if you don't want to use Bluetooth. This may be a viable option as enabling Bluetooth on our iPads or phones diminishes battery life. Personally, I prefer using any option that is cable free.

The con to this speaker is that the battery life is about three hours. I need to charge it in the middle of my work day in order to maintain a charge to get me through my teaching schedule. This device is charged via mini USB port. This is the same means of charging a standard cell phone or Android smartphone. It does not come with a charger, but you can use any phone charger connected with a mini USB cord. I actually carry a portable charging device with me at all times, so this is how I keep the speaker charged during the work day. I have this demonstrated in the picture below.
